Message	it was the evolution of the S-series cars dating back to the mid-70's. Basically economy cars that became 'sportier', but in no way intended to replace the Z cars. Sporty economy cars were the rage in the 80's, Rabbit GTI's, and my god, remember the Omni GLH? This was Nissan's entry into that segment, not some desire to return to the roots of the Z car.
